Short story about our characters:
“The Tale of Hopsbeard & Ruckus: A Brewed-Up Battle”
As told at the Fairchild Craft Beer & Cider Festival
Once upon a time, just off the shores of Clear Lake, the notorious hop-bearded pirate Captain Hopsbeard anchored his ship, The Fizzy Plunder, in search of new flavors to add to his legendary brew stash. With a mug in hand
and hops in his beard, he swaggered onto land, guided by the scent of sweet cider and crisp craft beer.
Meanwhile, in a shady grove near the event grounds, Ruckus the Raccoon—mischievous, striped, and a known connoisseur of all things fermented—was sipping his freshly poured local cider while watching the festivities from his
hammock.
Hopsbeard crept up, swiped the mug right from under Ruckus’s nose, and disappeared back to sea with a victorious “YAAARRR!”
But Ruckus wasn’t having it.
With a determined squeak and a floatie shaped like a pretzel, Ruckus paddled out to the Fizzy Plunder on a tiny wooden boat made of discarded flight trays. Under cover of bubbles and belly laughs from the festival, he
sneaked aboard and reclaimed not just his cider—but a few bonus brews for good measure.
The two now meet once a year—at the Fairchild Craft Beer & Cider Festival—to settle their differences the best way they know how: sharing a cold one, trading stories, and raising their mugs high in foamy friendship.
